BIFFY CLYRO - ELLIPSIS
Seventh Studio Album — 180g Black Vinyl
Biffy Clyro’s seventh studio album, Ellipsis, marked another decisive turn for the Scottish trio. Released in 2016, it followed the sprawling double album Opposites with a tighter, more direct record that retained the band’s explosive dynamics while embracing a more immediate and accessible approach.
Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Rich Costey, whose credits include Muse and My Chemical Romance, the album draws together Biffy’s trademark angular guitar work, huge riffs and pounding rhythms with a noticeably sharper production style. The result is an album that feels immediate from the opening seconds of “Wolves Of Winter”, one of the record’s most forceful and recognisable tracks.
“Friends and Enemies”, “Animal Style” and “Re-arrange” continue the album’s mixture of melody and aggression, while “Herex” and “Medicine” explore the darker and more atmospheric side of the band. Lyrically, the record frequently circles around personal conflict, resilience and the idea of fighting back.
The second half delivers “Flammable”, “On a Bang” and “Small Wishes”, before the atmospheric “Howl” — co-written by Simon Neil with Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and Johnny McDaid — and the closing “People” bring the record to a powerful conclusion.
Ellipsis debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, continuing Biffy Clyro’s remarkable progression from cult alternative-rock favourites to one of Britain’s biggest rock bands.
This edition is pressed on 180g black vinyl and presented in a standard picture sleeve with a printed lyric inner. It is a strong physical representation of an album that captures Biffy Clyro at a pivotal point in their evolution.
