DERMOT KENNEDY - SONDER
LIMITED EDITION WHITE VINYL LP
Sonder is the second studio album from Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy, released on 18 November 2022 through Island Records. Following the success of his platinum-selling debut Without Fear, the album sees Kennedy expand his emotionally charged songwriting with a more expansive production style, blending his distinctive gravelly vocals with atmospheric pop, folk influences and contemporary alternative sounds.
The album takes its title from the idea that every person has a life as complex and meaningful as our own. This concept runs throughout the record, exploring human connection, vulnerability, love, loss and the experiences that shape individual lives.
Kennedy's powerful vocal delivery and deeply personal lyrics remain at the centre of the album, supported by cinematic arrangements that move between intimate acoustic moments and soaring, anthemic choruses.
Sonder features a collection of songs that showcase Kennedy's ability to balance raw emotion with accessible, melodic songwriting. “Something to Someone” explores the desire to matter in another person's life, while “Better Days” offers a hopeful reflection on perseverance and the possibility of brighter times ahead. “Dreamer” captures the ambition and uncertainty that accompany pursuing a meaningful life, and “Kiss Me” brings an intimate, romantic perspective to the record.
Elsewhere, “Any Love” establishes the album's emotional tone, while “Innocence and Sadness” explores the complexities of growing older and confronting difficult experiences. “Divide”, “Homeward” and “One Life” continue the album's themes of belonging, relationships and personal reflection, before “Already Gone” and “Blossom” bring the record towards its conclusion.
Produced with a contemporary sound that complements Kennedy's roots in folk and singer-songwriter music, Sonderdemonstrates his evolution as an artist while retaining the emotional honesty that first connected him with audiences around the world.
