The Walls Are Way Too Thin is Holly Humberstone’s second EP — a compact, emotionally charged collection that established her as one of the most distinctive young voices in British alternative pop.
Across just six tracks, Humberstone creates a world of intimate songwriting, spectral synths, understated electronics and atmospheric production. There is a striking contrast between the warmth of her vocal delivery and the darker, slightly uneasy textures surrounding it, giving the EP a sense of vulnerability without ever becoming overly polished or predictable.
The EP explores the uncertainty of leaving home, growing up and trying to find somewhere — or someone — that feels permanent. Humberstone has described the record as reflecting a period of feeling lost and displaced while moving between cities, and that sense of instability runs through the songwriting.
The title track captures that feeling particularly well, while “Haunted House” and “Scarlett” bring the EP’s darker, dreamlike qualities to the forefront. “Please Don’t Leave Just Yet”, co-written with The 1975’s Matty Healy, adds another emotional centrepiece to the collection.
Originally released in 2021, The Walls Are Way Too Thin arrived at a pivotal point in Humberstone’s early career, following her debut EP Falling Asleep At The Wheel. The record helped establish the sound that would lead into her later work — personal, conversational songwriting set against atmospheric alternative pop.
This edition is the heavyweight black vinyl pressing, housed in a reverse-board sleeve with an insert. A beautifully understated record that feels every bit as intimate on vinyl as it does through headphones.
