JADE BIRD - JADE BIRD
Debut Studio Album · Limited Edition White Vinyl
With Jade Bird, the London-born singer-songwriter announced herself with a debut that felt far bigger than its relatively stripped-back sound suggested. Released in 2019, the album brings together folk, country, rock and Americana influences around Bird's remarkably powerful voice and sharply written songs.
There's an immediacy to the record that makes it so compelling. “Ruins”, “Lottery” and “I Get No Joy” arrive with the energy of an artist who already knows exactly what she wants to say, while “Side Effects” and “My Motto” reveal a more vulnerable side to her songwriting.
The album's standout single “Uh Huh” captures Bird's ability to combine old-school roots influences with something much more contemporary — energetic, raw and impossible to sit still to. Elsewhere, “17”, “Love Has All Been Done Before” and “Going Gone” explore relationships, independence and the uncertainty of growing into yourself.
Produced by Simone Felice and David Baron, the record gives Bird plenty of room to let her voice take centre stage. There's a sense throughout that the songs are being performed rather than manufactured, which gives Jade Bird its distinctive live-wire quality.
This particular pressing is especially interesting for collectors. The limited edition white vinyl was released alongside a poster featuring handwritten lyrics and behind-the-scenes photographs, giving the physical edition an additional connection to the artist and the making of the album. The official Glassnote release date is 19 April 2019.
