KACEY MUSGRAVES – MIDDLE OF NOWHERE
LIMITED EDITION WHISKEY-COLOURED VINYL LP
Middle of Nowhere is the sixth studio album from eight-time Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves, released on 1 May 2026. Returning to the country roots that have shaped much of her career, Musgraves delivers a collection inspired by Texas dancehall traditions, classic country storytelling and the unexpected places where traditional country music meets Norteño, Zydeco and contemporary Americana.
Known for her sharp observations, understated humour and distinctive approach to songwriting, Musgraves explores independence, relationships, loneliness and the absurdities of everyday life throughout the album.
Middle of Nowhere embraces a more country-forward sound, combining traditional instrumentation and western influences with the wit, emotional honesty and modern sensibility that have made her one of the genre’s most distinctive voices.
The title track establishes the album’s atmosphere, drawing on the imagery of open spaces and life away from the expectations of others. “Dry Spell” brings Musgraves’ characteristic humour to the frustrations of modern life, while “Back On The Wagon” explores the familiar cycle of making changes and falling back into old habits. “I Believe In Ghosts” introduces a more reflective perspective, balancing the album’s playful moments with a sense of mystery and emotional depth.
“Abilene” continues the record’s exploration of place, memory and belonging, while “Coyote”, featuring Gregory Alan Isakov, brings together two distinctive songwriting styles in a contemplative collaboration. “Loneliest Girl” explores solitude and the complexities of being comfortable in one’s own company, reinforcing the album’s wider themes of independence and self-discovery.
The second half expands the record’s musical palette through a series of collaborations. “Everybody Wants To Be A Cowboy”, featuring Billy Strings, draws on the mythology and musical traditions of the American West. “Horses and Divorces”, featuring Miranda Lambert, pairs two of country music’s most recognisable female voices, while “Uncertain, TX”, featuring Willie Nelson, connects Musgraves’ contemporary perspective with the enduring legacy of traditional country songwriting.
“Rhinestoned” brings a playful, country-inspired energy to the collection, before “Mexico Honey” and “Hell On Me” complete the album with further reflections on relationships, desire and the unpredictable turns life can take.
Throughout Middle of Nowhere, Musgraves balances traditional country influences with her own distinctive personality, creating a record that feels rooted in the music and culture of Texas while remaining unmistakably contemporary. The result is an album that celebrates independence, embraces life's imperfections and finds humour in the spaces between expectation and reality.
