LEWIS CAPALDI - BROKEN BY DESIRE TO BE HEAVENLY SENT
Blue Coloured Vinyl
Lewis Capaldi’s second studio album, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, finds the Scottish singer-songwriter returning to the emotional directness that defined his breakthrough, while allowing more room for upbeat production and a broader musical palette. Released in 2023, it follows his hugely successful debut Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent.
The album opens with “Forget Me”, an immediately catchy, 1980s-influenced pop song that marked a brighter direction for Capaldi. From there, the record moves naturally between upbeat moments and the huge emotional ballads that have become his trademark. “Wish You The Best” and “Pointless” showcase his ability to turn deeply personal stories into universally relatable songs, while “Heavenly Kind Of State Of Mind” adds a lighter, more playful energy.
At the heart of the album is Capaldi’s unmistakable voice. “Haven’t You Ever Been In Love Before?”, “Love The Hell Out Of You” and “Burning” lean into the emotional intensity of his songwriting, while “Any Kind Of Life”, “The Pretender” and “Leave Me Slowly” explore the uncertainty and vulnerability that run throughout the record.
Rather than attempting to completely reinvent his sound, Capaldi deliberately focused on making the kind of music he enjoys — songs built around melody, lyrics and performance. The result is a record that feels familiar while still expanding beyond the piano-led balladry of his debut.
This edition is pressed on blue coloured vinyl, offering a distinctive physical presentation of Capaldi’s second album. With its combination of huge choruses, intimate songwriting and unmistakable vocals, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent is an essential part of Capaldi’s growing catalogue.
