MEDIUM BUILD - KING OF HAVING FUN
Vinyl LP – Includes Signed Art Card
Medium Build, the musical project of Alaskan-born singer-songwriter Nick Carpenter, returns with King of Having Fun, an emotionally candid album that explores the complicated distance between youthful freedom and the realities of adult life. Written in the heat of summer and recorded live in the studio alongside close friends and collaborators, the record blends indie rock, country influences and raw, unfiltered storytelling into a deeply personal collection of songs.
At its heart, King of Having Fun is about the search for happiness and the things that can get in the way. Across fourteen tracks, Carpenter reflects on friendship, freedom, addiction, anxiety, love and regret, tracing the journey from a curious kid riding his bike too far from home to an adult searching for relief in all the wrong places. His songwriting balances sharp observations with emotional vulnerability, creating songs that feel immediate, honest and deeply human.
Blending elements of alternative rock, indie and Americana, the album moves between energetic arrangements and more introspective moments, held together by Carpenter's distinctive voice and conversational lyricism. Rather than presenting a polished version of life's difficulties, the record embraces its contradictions, exploring the tension between wanting to escape and learning how to reconnect with the simple pleasures that make life meaningful.
The album's central themes revolve around rediscovering a sense of wonder: getting outside, taking chances, calling your friends and remembering what it feels like to be fully present. It is both a coming-of-age story and a cautionary tale, examining how the pursuit of happiness can become complicated and how the way forward sometimes begins with returning to the things that mattered in the first place.
This vinyl edition presents King of Having Fun on classic black vinyl, housed in a gatefold jacket with a printed inner sleeve, insert and bonus royal print. The edition also includes a signed art card, making it a particularly appealing addition for collectors and fans of Medium Build.
With its blend of country, rock and indie influences, King of Having Fun captures an artist unafraid to confront life's messier moments while searching for something hopeful on the other side. It is an intimate, restless and ultimately life-affirming record about finding your way back to yourself.
