RENÉE RAPP – SNOW ANGEL
VINYL LP EDITION
Snow Angel is the debut studio album from American singer-songwriter and actress Renée Rapp, released on 18 August 2023 through Interscope Records. Following her early success on Broadway and her growing profile as a recording artist, Rapp introduced a deeply personal collection of songs that blends contemporary pop with alternative influences, emotionally charged ballads and moments of unapologetic confidence.
Executive produced by Alexander 23, the album places Rapp’s distinctive vocals and candid songwriting at the centre of its sound. Across twelve tracks, she explores heartbreak, insecurity, desire, complicated relationships and the struggle to understand her own emotions. The production moves between polished pop arrangements and more vulnerable, stripped-back moments, allowing the intensity of her performances to shape the record.
The album opens with “Talk Too Much”, an energetic introduction built around the anxieties and overthinking that can accompany attraction. “I Hate Boston” turns its attention towards the complicated memories attached to a place and a relationship, while “Poison Poison” delivers a sharper, more confrontational perspective. “Gemini Moon” explores emotional contradictions, setting the tone for an album that repeatedly moves between vulnerability and defiance.
The title track, “Snow Angel”, is one of the album’s most emotionally intense moments. Built around a powerful vocal performance and a gradual musical build, the song reflects on pain, survival and the lasting effects of difficult experiences. Its dramatic arrangement contrasts with the more immediate pop energy elsewhere on the record, showcasing Rapp’s ability to deliver both intimate storytelling and expansive, emotionally charged performances.
“ So What Now” continues the album’s exploration of what happens after a relationship changes, while “The Wedding Song” approaches commitment and romantic expectations from a more complicated perspective. “Pretty Girls” examines attraction and insecurity, pairing candid lyrics with a contemporary pop sound. “Tummy Hurts” brings together frustration, vulnerability and sharp observations about relationships, making it one of the album’s defining tracks.
The closing songs deepen the album’s emotional range. “I Wish” reflects on regret and the desire for things to have turned out differently, while “Willow” offers a more intimate moment of reflection. The album concludes with “23”, a personal and emotionally revealing track that brings its themes of growing up, identity and self-understanding into focus.
Throughout Snow Angel, Rapp balances direct, conversational songwriting with powerful melodies and expressive vocals. The album captures the uncertainty of early adulthood and the complicated emotions that accompany relationships, establishing her as a distinctive voice in contemporary pop.
