Vinyl LP – Signed on the Back of the Sleeve

Seasick Steve returns with The Last Season of America, a deeply personal and politically charged album that captures the raw spirit of an artist who has spent a lifetime observing the world from the outside. Rooted in blues, Americana and rugged roots rock, the record finds the singer-songwriter reflecting on the state of his home country, drawing on personal experiences and observations gathered during a road trip across America.

In 2024, Steve and his wife Elisabeth travelled across the United States, witnessing poverty, division and the changing mood of a nation approaching another presidential election. During a visit to a New Orleans club, a bandleader welcomed two Belgian musicians to the stage with the words “welcome to the last season of America”. The phrase stayed with Steve, eventually inspiring the album's title track and providing the starting point for a collection that examines the uncertainty and contradictions of modern America.

Known for his unconventional approach to music, weathered vocals and distinctive homemade instruments, Seasick Steve has built a career around honest storytelling and an uncompromising blues sound. On The Last Season of America, those qualities come together in a record that feels immediate, grounded and unfiltered. Rather than offering easy answers, Steve uses his music to explore the struggles of ordinary people and the social tensions shaping the country around him.

The title track sets the tone for the album, establishing its reflective and confrontational character. “Bad Things” and “Above Ground Boogie” bring a more driving blues energy, while “Bootstraps” explores the realities of getting by and the resilience required to keep moving forward. “El Camino” adds a road-worn Americana feel, reflecting the journeys and encounters that inform the record.

Elsewhere, “Surf's Flat” and “Free Man” continue the album's exploration of freedom, identity and life on the margins. “Somebody” brings the focus back to the people behind the headlines, while “Matilda From Ottawa” adds another character to Steve's collection of observations. The album closes with “Feel the Sun”, rounding out a ten-track release that balances social commentary with the earthy, lived-in sound that has become his trademark.

At its heart, The Last Season of America is a protest record in the truest sense: personal, heartfelt and unafraid to confront uncomfortable realities. It captures an experienced songwriter responding to the world around him with the tools he knows best — a guitar, a distinctive voice and a lifetime of stories.

This edition is signed by Seasick Steve on the back of the sleeve, adding a personal collectible element to the release. For fans of raw blues, Americana and independent-minded songwriting, it offers a compelling addition to his catalogue.
