SHAWN MENDES - SHAWN
Limited Edition Milky Clear Vinyl + Poster
Shawn Mendes’ self-titled fifth studio album, Shawn, is an intimate and stripped-back record that finds the Canadian singer-songwriter turning inward. Released in 2024, it arrived after a period of personal reflection and represents a quieter, more vulnerable chapter in Mendes’ career.
Written and recorded over two years across a number of locations, the album was created with a small group of close collaborators including Scott Harris, Mike Sabath, Eddie Benjamin, Nate Mercereau, Ethan Gruska, Amy Allen and Chris Thile. Rather than chasing the huge pop production of some of Mendes’ earlier work, Shawn allows space for acoustic instrumentation, natural textures and his voice to sit at the centre.
The opening “Who I Am” immediately establishes the album’s reflective character, followed by “Why Why Why”, which combines an infectious melody with candid self-questioning. “That’s The Dream”, “Nobody Knows” and “Isn’t That Enough” continue the introspective mood, exploring identity, relationships and the uncertainty that comes with change.
The second half brings further emotional depth. “Heart of Gold”, “Heavy” and “In Between” balance vulnerability with warmth, while “The Mountain” offers one of the album’s most striking statements of self-acceptance. The record closes with Mendes’ delicate interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, bringing the album to a quietly powerful conclusion.
Shawn feels deliberately personal — a record less concerned with spectacle and more interested in honesty, reflection and the simple strength of a well-written song. It marks a notable shift in Mendes’ sound while retaining the melodic instincts that have defined his career.
