WET LEG - WET LEG
Debut Studio Album — Black Vinyl
Wet Leg’s self-titled debut is a brilliantly off-kilter collision of indie rock, post-punk, dry humour and irresistible pop hooks. Released in 2022, the album transformed Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers from an Isle of Wight duo into one of the most talked-about new bands of the decade.
The record opens with “Being In Love”, before launching into the instantly recognisable “Chaise Longue” — a song whose deadpan delivery, infectious guitar riff and absurdist humour became one of the defining alternative tracks of the early 2020s. From there, Wet Leg constantly shifts between playful, scuzzy guitar pop and moments of genuine emotional vulnerability.
“Angelica”, “I Don’t Wanna Go Out” and “Wet Dream” capture the band’s knack for turning everyday frustrations and relationships into sharply observed pop songs, while “Ur Mum” and “Oh No” push further into their deliberately irreverent side. Beneath the humour, however, there is a darker thread running through the record, particularly in songs such as “Loving You” and “Too Late Now”.
Produced primarily by Dan Carey, the album combines wiry guitars, synths, driving drums and Teasdale and Chambers’ distinctive vocals into a sound that feels both deliberately rough around the edges and remarkably immediate. It is an album that can be funny, strange, catchy and melancholic within the space of a single track.
The record went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, confirming Wet Leg’s rapid rise and placing their debut firmly within the modern indie-rock canon.
This edition is the standard black vinyl pressing, released by Domino in 2022 and catalogued as WIGLP496. The physical edition includes a printed foldout insert and digital download, making it a particularly appealing representation of the album in its original vinyl era.
